Foundation of Love

Together we create a stir.

We draw your stares.

You're puzzled and wonder

How we could ever form

A foundation of love strong and true.

His skin is a rich, chocolate brown,

While mine is freckled, almost beyond fair.

His hair is course and black;

While I have bright copper hair.

But if you take a look deeper,

See past our shells,

You will find in our hearts

There is much that we share.

We've built a union unexpected by most.

Together, united, we're powerful and strong.

And most often we don't notice

The pressure - the stares.

Until in some places its no longer there.

And then in those moments

New hope comes in view.

Our hearts dream of the day

When King's words will come true

And we no longer judge

Or decide whom to love

Based on the color of skin.
